Parent Involvement

Parent Training
A new born baby has the innate ability to develop physically, mentally, and socially. The baby’s Central Nervous System (CNS) is pre wired in such a way that it automatically develops stage by stage, but the CNS needs some kind of external stimulation to facilitate the development. For example, the baby may have the innate ability to roll over, but the baby rolls unconsciously in the process of reaching for a toy shown on his/her sides. Most of the time the parents are the primary facilitators for the children to develop in sequence especially when the child has a damaged CNS.

Parents play a major role in handling the children with CNS damage for their further functional development and preventing the further complications. Handling in this context refers to simple lifting, carrying, transferring, feeding, dressing etc. All these functional activities will have a great impact on the children’s tone and thus on their functional performance.
Parent training program focuses on educating the parents and care givers on understanding the basic CNS functions, nature of disabilities, and handling their children easily at home and other public places. It also focuses on promoting Parent supportive groups which will help many parents over come the stress.
